Taking into account Batang Yagit in the previous year
Here comes again the time of the year wherein we have to assess our failures and accomplishments in the previous year. We also need to thank the people who helped us achieve those accomplishments and stayed with us during those times of failure.
As for Batang Yagit, the 2008 has been a very fulfilling year for me. A lot of things happened to me both on my life as Batang Yagit and on my life as an ordinary person. It’s also notable that there are more accomplishments than failures for me this year.
A lot of things happened to me in 2008. I received an award, became a member of a prestigous organization, became an Engineer, organized a community, organized several events, graduated college, flew to different places, and lived in three cities within the year
Going back in January, that’s when I first worried of not having a job when I graduate in March. It was also my last semester in college and I was very busy preparing for the final requirements for graduation, which includes my project studies and thesis. It was also in January when we received a lot of invitations from the different restaurants (Taj Minar, Belly’s Grill, Salutti, Pepper and Peppers, and Hanoi) here in Davao City, and it was the peak month of the Davao Food Trips.
February was also a hell month for me. I was very busy in preparations of the Awitenista 2008 Production of which I was the head. But the efforts paid off because it was a blast. It was also on this month when I passed the preliminary interview and examination of the company I’m currently in. Oh, it was also on this month that I moved from blogger to wordpress and changed my blog’s design.
March was one of the most important periods of my life. It was this year that I graduated with BS Electronics and Communications Engineering in Ateneo de Davao. I have taken accounts on how we champed the CODEE Engineering Congress and the day I said goodbye to my college uniform. The MB group (Kuya Drew, Kuya Blogs, Kuya Migs and Ate Ri) also organized the first Davao FAT where the sweeties (Aileen and Jay) came to feast with us.

Yagit Kid sa Bohol
We also attended the iBlog Summit 4 in UP Diliman last April. It was the first blogging event in Manila that I attended. The next was the 88db.com party where I cosplayed as batang yagit. After the Manila trip, I was also able to visit Cebu, Bohol and Panglao for vacation.
May was my last month in Davao before moving to Cebu for my 5-month review. It was also this month when I wrote the “controversial post” which caught the attention of the queen’s daughters. May was hard for me in a way that it was the month when I started my independent life. I got separated from my family and moved out to an environment that is very different from what I’m used to.
I started slacking off on my blogging habits last June and in the succeeding months. I got busy in a lot of company work and in my review. Also, the lack of decent internet connection in my apartment made my online life very miserable. But despite my absence in the blogosphere, I was still able to cope up with it. It was in June when I called the bloggers in Cebu for the very first blogger meet-up and helped in organizing the Cebu Bloggers Society. It was in July when the “controversial post” started to gain popularity. But I never took negatively, instead, I realized that my blog has grown in the past years and people are already concerned on what I write and how I influence my readers.
August, uhmm, what August? August was the only month of the year which I was not able post a blog entry.
In September, I went back to Manila to work on WordCamp 2008. It was very fulfilling since it was the first WordCamp in Southeast Asia and second in Asia. The event was very successful that it made a lot of buzz in the internet. Only a week after I returned to Cebu from Manila, Batang Yagit received a nomination for the Philippine Blog Awards’ Bloggers’ Choice Award. Thanks to the convincing powers of Jehz, my ever hard working campaign manager, that he was able to scout the votes for Batang Yagit. And two weeks after WordCamp, I flew again to Manila to receive the Bloggers’ Choice Award.
It was also in October when I took and passed the ECE Licensure Examination. While everyone in the review center was very busy doing their last minute reviews for the most awaited day of the year, I was busy sleeping at home. I made preparations in the previous month but I never gave myself a lot of pressure in studying for the exam. I only made myself believe that I’m more intelligent than my classmates and that’s one good reason to pass the exam. But before I took the exam, the bloggers in Cebu had a great time in the events that we had. The Digital Filipino Club Meet-up and the Samsung Event, both events I helped organize.
After the examination, I immediately moved out to Manila last November. If I was deprived from blogging events in the past months, November and December was very different. We’ve been attending a lot of events in the Metro. It was in November that I proved myself worthy to be called a genius after I passed the MENSA exam.
It was also in November when I started my training in the Japanese company I am in. Everything was new to me, the people, the things we do, the words we speak (日本語), the language I write and the place I work.
There’s not much that happened to me last month (December). I went home to Davao, zipped at Camp Sabros, attended parties, went out with my Davao friends, attended high school and college reunions and bummed at home. And, I also teamed up with Mica for the Pinoy Fans Club project.
A lot more happened to me in 2008 as compared to the previous year. I received an award, became a member of a prestigious organization, became an Engineer, organized a community, organized several events, graduated college, flew to different places, and lived in three cities within the year. That’s a lot. I’m getting ready for the coming year. I know it’s going to be more hectic and more busy than the previous year.
Happy New Year!
