Mandaue Business Month Press Conference

I mentioned in an earlier post that I got invited by Mr. Wilson Ng to attend the Mandaue Business Month press conference. The invitation was also open to other 15 bloggers but only a few responded because of some conflicts in schedule. Among those who attended the press conference are Aileen (http://sunchoke.net), Wil (http://misswilhelmina.com), Paul (http://cebudirectories.com), Nick (http://in-indie.org), Arnold (http://cebuheritage.com), and Rio (http://ngkhai.net/blog).
Present during the press conference are the people from the business sector, the media, and Hon. Gwen Garcia, the governor of the province of Cebu. The purpose of that press conference is to formally launch the upcoming 17th Visayas Business Area Business Conference and the Mandaue Business Month.

The first week in Cebu City was very difficult on my part. I’m not used of eating carenderia food. While I was in Davao, I was spoiled with my Lola’s home-cooked meals and food from Davao’s best restaurants. I was not prepared in the sudden change of my lifestyle.
Among those things I miss about Davao are the numerous Inasal restaurants found in the downtown area. Mang Inasal, Penongs, and Banoks among others. Last night, we were able to come across Cebu’s barbeque haven. We didn’t realize that such place lies a few blocks away from our building.

It has been a while since the members of the Kalasag 2006. It’s a rare occasion for us to go out since most of us are already working. At dahil walang pasok at pista sa Ateneo, we find the time to go out today.
Naaalala ko noong maliit pa ako, uso noong araw ang mga perya sa bayan. At dahil lumaki ako sa probinsya, isa ang perya sa mga kapansin-pansing kasiyahan sa fiesta. Ang perya, o carnival sa ingles, ay ang sinaunang theme parks ng mga bayan. Wala pang Star City at Enchanted Kingdom noon. Tanging perya lang ang may mga thrilling at exciting rides. May mga chubibo, ferris wheel, sugal, carousel at kung anu-ano pa. May horror train din at mga weird na tao na nagpapanggap bilang taong ahas. May mga madyikero, sirkero, tubero, bumbero, etsetera estetera.
Noong araw, minsan tuwing pista, pumupunta kami sa perya para magsaya. Pinapasakay kami ng rides, mapa-softcore or hardcore man. Naaalala ko pa nung sumakay kami ng octopus, sinuka ko ang lahat ng kinain ko sa tanghalian. Hindi ko kinaya ang upuang umiikot sa ere.
Hindi ko inakalang may perya pa pala sa panahong ito. Mas nakakagulat dahil nasa Davao ito. Matapos kaming mamasyal sa SM City Davao kanina, kasama si Ate Coise, Jaqi, Ate Myka at Kuya Alvin, napagdesisyunan namin na pumunta ng Damosa Gateway. May nakapagsabi raw kay Jaqi na may rides daw sa Damosa. At dahil na-excite kami sa rides, pumayag na kaming umalis kahit na gutom na sila.
Nostalgic.
Matagal na noong huli akong makapasok sa perya. Nasa elementarya pa ata ako noon. Kaya medyo kakaiba ang feeling nung pumasok kami kanina. Parang naaalala ko ang mga ‘good old days’. Sumakay kami ng swan-thing na chubibo, minalas lang kasi nasira yung ride. Nakakatakot hindi dahil thrilling yung ride, kundi dahil sa mga di-tiyak na safety measures ng ride. Pati rin yung structure ng mga rides. Lalo na yung Mad Mouse, na parang coaster, na umaalog ang mga bakal tuwing dumadaan yung Mouse cart. At dahil nasira yung ride, lumipat na lang kami sa carousel. Natuwa naman kami.
Hindi pa rin nawawala ang pasugalan sa perya. Andyan yung laro na dodoble ang taya mo kung lalabas ang kulay ng kahong tinayaan mo. Nandyan din yung baril-barilan ng mga laruang pato. Hindi rin nawawala ang curly tops bilang papremyo. Talagang nakakamiss ang peryang Pilipino.

hahaha oo nga,,.. na alala ko din yung larga bola.. alam mo yun? yung ma shot yung bola sa kulay na tinayaan mo.. at yung baril baril ng maliliit na sundalong plastic.. at maraming pang iba! bwahahaha!! ^_^

I experienced two types of peryas during my childhood days. One was in Fiesta Carnival (Cubao, QC) where it was an all-year-round thing. The other type was in the province (Limay, Bataan). Twas a totally different type of fair because they only had a few weeks (at the most 4) to set up their rigs and earn money. Twas much fun too because everyone knew everybody and had a good time.
By the way, I’ve submitted an entry to a local contest - 2007 Wika Project. It focuses on Filipino as our national language. If you have time, please vote for my article (if you like the piece, of course).

iba talaga ang tatak pinoy…kaya minsan gusto nating balik-balikan ang mga nagdaan…nakakaaliw ang mga peryang ganyan..yan din ang inaabangan ko tuwing piyesta sa mga bayan o nayon. yun bang kung iisipin natin ay totoo naman talagang tayo ay napakamalikhain pagdating sa pangkabuhayan…lahat gagawin ng pinoy kahit tumawid sa alambre di lang para makapagbigay aliw sa manonood kundi para may mapagkakakitaan..maabilidad ang mga pinoy…pinatibay na ng panahon.
