Yeah, I saw an iPhone in one of the mobile phone shops in NCCC Mall tonight. I was looking for the new models of iPod and i happened to come across the iPhone box. I thought it’s one of those Chinese clones sold here but the packaging does not say so.
I deliberately asked the guy inside the store if it’s original. He said it’s original, open-line and it’s sold at 55k. Check the picture below. If you have doubts, check it at the 3rd floor of the NCCC Mall (Ma-a, Davao City). I’m not sure about it either. I didn’t know that Apple is selling iPhones which are open (or hacked) by default.

To date, the iPhone is locked to one carrier in the US and that’s AT&T. The iPhone will be released in the UK, Germany, and France on November, most probably locked to O2, TMobile, and Orange, respectively.
There have been several attempts (some successful) in unlocking the iPhone. Just google iPhone + Unlocking and you can get tons of articles about the unlocking of the iPhone. However, Apple has published an official word on the matter and that is:
“Apple strongly discourages users from installing unauthorized unlocking programs on their iPhones. Users who make unauthorized modifications to the software on their iPhone violate their iPhone software license agreement and void their warranty. The permanent inability to use an iPhone due to installing unlocking software is not covered under the iPhone’s warranty.“
So, unlock and risk voiding your warranty.
Another word about the 55K and 70K iPhone sold in Davao; I think these are for people who have more money than sense. I heard two muslims bought the 70K iPhones in one of the malls here.
‘Like I said: More money than…
‘Nuff said.
By the way, there are real iPhones here in Davao as I have been able to use one in GMall.

Jim is right. I couldn’t agree more. There are no iPhones available in the Philippines. I have connections with Apple Outsourced Centers and as far as we know iPhones that are unlocked from networks they have license to are phones that could have been reported lost or stolen. Too bad.
