Reviewing the Soundfreaq iPod Speakers

I was privileged to be given the opportunity to try the Soundfreaq iPod speaker system. The device was sent by our friends from Digital Walker. I have tried using one of the displays in one of their stores before but the experience of having to keep it for testing for a couple of days is different.

The device is around the size of a shoe box and it doesn’t require that much space. I tried using mine one top of my computer desk at home since it’s the most accessible location when I use it in the morning. It also uses a standard power plug so there’s no need for you to use an adapter. The only complain I have about the power cord is it’s length. It would have been nicer if a longer power cord was provided.
The Soundfreaq speakers for iPod have provision for different types and sizes of iPod or iPhones. Several iPod dock adapters are included in the package. Aside from iPods and iPhones, you may also use other devices and gadgets. However, you may not be able to utilize the docking mechanism since it was specifically designed for iDevices (iPods and iPhones).

Aside from the standard iPod/iPhone connector, the device has other connection options for devices other than iDevices. For MP3 players, you may connect your player via the 3.5mm auxiliary channel. However, the cable needed was not provided in the package. You can purchase the same type of cable from Ace hardware, Handy Man, and any other hardware stores for that matter.
For most advanced mobile phones, you have the option to stream your music to your speakers via Bluetooth. I tried using my Samsung Galaxy S II with it and it works like a charm. I never had the problem pairing my smart phone with the device. You can also use the speaker controls to corporal the playback and volume of the music being streamed via Bluetooth. I haven’t tried using it to receive or make calls though.

With regards to the volume of the speaker, it’s extra powerful in relation to its size. Considering that it’s only as big as a shoebox, it can go as loud as the home theater system that I have in my room without any distinguishable distortion on the quality of music output.
Overall, if I were to buy a sound system for my room, the Soundfreaq iPod speakers is not a bad choice. However, it should be noted that this system was designed for small rooms and it can’t be a replacement for a real living room speaker system.
