Blog Action Day Post: Stopping Poverty
While I was waiting in SM for my Smart Gold Lite application to be approved last week, I happened to pass by a familiar booth inside the mall. I’ve seen them a couple of times in Ayala, few months ago, but I never paid much attention. But I know them. I have read about them on the papers they were giving to the passers by.
My curiosity pushed me to get interested on what they were doing. I approached one of the volunteers, whose name is Anya, who is working in the booth and introduced myself as a blogger. From the little talk that we had, I learned that World Vision is in need of sponsors for the thousands of poor kids that were not able to go to school.
World Vision Philippines is currently supporting hundreds of communities from the poorest of the poor rural areas in the country. They are also receiving donations from their Child Sponsorhip program to sustain their mission of helping the poor get a good education and a good life. For just twenty pesos a day (Php 20/day) or six hundred pesos a month (Php 600/month), you can feed and send a poor kid to school.
Also, in line of the Children’s Month, World Vision, together with GCAP-Philippines launched the 50-50 campaign. It’s campaign wherein you will pledge to do 50 little things in 50 days. By doing the pledge, you are contributing in saving the environment, help ending poverty, and support the global call against poverty. Fifty simple things an ordinary person can do in fifty days. To join the campaign, simply fill out this form.
